History

The London Rugby League Foundation was originally formed as the Harlequins Rugby League Foundation in 2009 and later renamed the London Broncos Foundation when the professional club rebranded in 2012.

The Foundation was originally set up by the club to increase physical activity and social cohesion in the local community, and delivered rugby and dance activity extensively across South West London and Surrey for a number of years, in all areas of the community from primary schools to care homes.

When the club moved to The Hive in 2014, the London Broncos, RFL and the Foundation trustees agreed the Foundation had the potential for a greater role in London, and renamed the charity as the London Rugby League Foundation with a broader remit for developing the sport and its community across Greater London and the surrounding counties.

The work of the Foundation

The London Rugby League Foundation runs projects and programmes to drive growth in rugby league participation, provide opportunities to excel and improve the health, lifestyle, and skills of people within the rugby league community in London.

The Foundation is one of the delivery partners of the national Sky Try project, which aims to get 100,000 children active through rugby league every year.  Through Sky Try, the Foundation currently coach over 5000 children at over 100 schools a year, linked to 18 community clubs across London and the South East. The project fits with the long-term aim to develop a growing community of rugby league players in London and the surrounding counties.

The Foundation works closely with the professional clubs to drive coach and player development programmes, such as the Hard Rock Cafe London Origin public grant funding, commercial sponsorship, and fundraising, so please get in touch if you want to series and the RFL initiative, Embed the Pathway.  Embed the Pathway seeks to improve coaching within a club and school setting to assist player development and provide opportunities for players to access high quality coaching through player development days.
